Dog-Friendly Restaurants and Cafés in Bangkok

53 places that welcome dogs, by neighborhood

Update :

Finding dog-friendly restaurants in Bangkok is easier than it was three years ago, and harder than it should be. Plenty of places will seat you. Fewer will say in advance whether your dog sits under the table or waits on a terrace.

That detail changes the whole day. A terrier who settles at your feet is a different proposition from a golden retriever in April, and “pet friendly” tells you nothing about either.

So this is arranged the way people actually decide — by neighborhood, address and dog policy first. Fifty-three places, every one of them somewhere we’ve been or had confirmed.

Venue details and dog policies change. It is always best to call or message ahead before visiting.

Thong Lo

12 places

Thong Lo has more dog-friendly restaurants than anywhere else in Bangkok, and it isn’t close. The density is the point. You can move between four or five of these on foot, and the soi keeps enough tree cover to make that pleasant before mid-morning.

  • Hungry Pack

    Hungry Pack

8/3 Sukhumvit Soi 49, 49 PLAYSCAPE, Khlong Tan Nuea, Watthana, Bangkok 10110

Phrom Phong

9 places

Phrom Phong rewards a little planning. Almost everything clusters on Sukhumvit 26, 31 and 39, and most of it will take dogs indoors — which matters in a neighborhood offering very little shade between sois.

The leafy terrace is the reason dogs settle here — shaded enough to linger, and contained enough to stay calm despite the Asok traffic on the corner.

Sathorn

8 places

Sathorn spreads out more than the Sukhumvit neighborhoods, so it pays to pick one place rather than plan to wander between them. The trade-off is space — several of these have room Thong Lo simply can’t offer.

What to check before you go

Dog policies change, and they change fastest at the places that get busiest. A message before you leave saves a wasted taxi.

Three things are worth asking. Whether indoor seating is genuinely open to dogs or only the terrace — plenty of venues describe themselves as dog-friendly and mean the latter. Whether there’s a size limit, which almost never appears in writing anywhere. And whether the air conditioning reaches where dogs actually sit, which matters more than most owners expect between March and June.

Questions we get asked

Are dogs allowed inside restaurants in Bangkok?

At many, yes. Of the places here, a clear majority allow dogs indoors on a leash; a smaller group keeps dogs to outdoor seating. There’s no city-wide rule — it’s set venue by venue, which is exactly why it’s worth checking.

Which Bangkok restaurants have a dog menu?

A short list. Tea Factory and More in Phrom Phong, Khao Niao and Yu Baan Eatery in Ari, and Fuzzypuppy Deli & Wine in Phra Khanong.

Where can I take a large dog?

Look for garden or lawn above. Khao Niao, Patom, HEY MOOKRATA, Playlys and Childish Cafe all have real outdoor space rather than two pavement tables.
