Karo Coffee Roasters on Soi Pridi Banomyong 26 is the original home of one of Bangkok’s most respected specialty coffee roasteries — a neighbourhood institution with a loyal local following, serious coffee credentials, and the kind of unhurried atmosphere that makes people stay longer than they planned.

The Story

Karo was founded by Sri Lankan-born Karo Iyash, a professional barista whose passion for coffee is matched by his commitment to community. The “Pridi” neighbourhood — Phra Khanong Nuea — was ranked among Time Out’s world’s coolest neighbourhoods, and Karo has been part of what shaped that reputation. The brand has since expanded to multiple Bangkok locations (Thonglor, Surasak, Udomsuk, Ari), but Pridi 26 remains the HQ: the place where the roasting ethos was established and the community first formed.

The Coffee

This is where Karo’s beans begin. The roastery sources distinctive micro lots from around the world, with Thai beans from Doi Saket — including yellow bourbon trees exclusive to the brand — sitting alongside rotating single origins from Ethiopia, Kenya, Panama, Nepal, and beyond. Three in-house espresso blends anchor the menu, each with its own character. The Hot Filter from Doi Saket is fruity and aromatic. The Split serves espresso and piccolo separately, side by side. The Mexican Mocha brings fragrant warmth with a spicy finish. The Lavender Latte — topped with dried lavender — is a signature that has earned its own devoted following. Home-fermented ginger beer rounds out the non-coffee options. Every cup reflects a direct relationship between Karo and his beans.

The Food

Breakfast and brunch are taken seriously here. Loaded sourdough sandwiches, house-smoked bacon, cinnamon rolls, French toast, and freshly baked pastries — including vegan and gluten-free options — make Karo a destination for the full morning rather than just the coffee. The atmosphere does the rest: a loft-style shophouse with brushed concrete walls, indoor and outdoor seating, and a steady flow of regulars, creatives, and visitors who have heard the word.

Bringing Your Dog

Karo Pridi is dog-friendly, and the outdoor seating on a leafy, quiet soi makes it a natural stop with a dog in tow. The café even offers gelato for dogs. The neighbourhood itself — calm, residential, with a fruit market and independent businesses nearby — makes for a pleasant walk before or after your coffee.

Pup Cities Awards

Karo took home the Silver Medal for Best Café at the Pup Cities Awards 2025 — a recognition that reflects what regulars have known for a while: this is one of the best places in Bangkok to spend a morning with your dog.
