Chiangmai PAO Park is the dog-friendly park Chiang Mai owners head to when their dog needs real room to roam. Dogs are welcome outdoors across the park’s open lawns. It’s officially designated as a pet-friendly public space by the Provincial Administrative Organization itself. A leashed dog can explore freely across the wide green fields that make up much of the grounds. Since the park spans roughly 300 rai around Nong Khieo Reservoir, even a long walk barely covers the whole property. Beyond that, the sheer scale of the place means a dog rarely feels crowded, even on a busy weekend.

A Dog-Friendly Park Built Around a Reservoir and Open Lawns

Chiangmai PAO Park sits behind City Hall, inside the Chiang Mai Civic Centre compound. The reservoir at its center gives the park a natural focal point. Jogging and cycling paths trace the water’s edge. Open lawns and gardens spread out on either side, giving dogs plenty of grass to explore off the main paths. Meanwhile, an aviary zone hosts parrot shows on select days, adding an unexpected bit of entertainment for visitors passing through. Mountain views stretch out in the background, especially striking around sunset.

Unlike a typical park, there’s no playground here. That keeps the space feeling more like open countryside than a manicured city green. A small market sometimes sets up near the entrance, offering snacks and drinks for anyone who didn’t pack their own. As a result, a visit here works well as a full outing rather than a quick stop. Restrooms and parking near the entrance make logistics easy for a longer stay.

Chiangmai PAO Park stands out among the city’s dog-friendly park options for its genuinely generous space. Open lawns and reservoir views make it easy to spend a whole afternoon walking with a leashed dog.

Opening hours and pet access policies can change, always check with the venue before visiting with your dog.
